FILIPINO AMERICAN TELEVISION AIRS SECOND SEASON ON WHRO

New Season of Locally Produced TV Show Begins Oct. 5th

Norfolk, Va., Sept. 10, 2008 – Filipino American Television, also known as Fil Am TV, will begin airing its second season on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008. Following a successful first season, Fil Am TV’s new season will be produced in widescreen and carried on WHRO's high definition at its new time at 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Produced by Pinoy Productions, the 30-minute program shares the rich and diverse Filipino community with Hampton Roads. Fil Am TV showcases area cultural events, educational and topical issues, cooking segments and an events calendar. The second season will feature visiting and local personalities including, the first Filipina firefighter in Virginia Beach; rockstar Arnel Pineda of the band, Journey; and Jabbawockeez, winner of MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew.

“WHRO is thrilled with the feedback from Fil Am TV's first season and proud to renew the program for a second season,” says Bert Schmidt, CEO, WHRO. “Giving our viewers an insight into the local Filipino community helps unite Hampton Roads.”

“The new 5 p.m. show time is perfect for families to watch Fil Am TV after arriving home from church and activities on Sunday afternoons,” says Jay Sanchez, producer, Fil Am TV and president, Pinoy Productions. “While the first season successfully garnered an audience average of 5,000 households with a 2 p.m. broadcast, the later time slot is sure to attract more viewers.”

Fil Am TV is currently re-running the first season of the series on Sundays at 2 p.m. on WHRO channel 15 until Oct. 5th when the new season begins at its new time at 5 p.m. All episodes are also available online and via Podcast on www.filamtelevision.com.

“The Filipino American community of Hampton Roads has been an integral part of the history and progress of our area. From our involvement in the military to helping shape the community, the Filipino American community story needs to be shared,” Virginia Beach City Councilman Ron Villanueva says. “I am proud to know that an endeavor like Fil Am TV will help promote diversity as well as share the success and challenges our community faces."

Hampton Roads is home to a growing 40,000 Filipino Americans, the largest Asian group in the region. Largely due to the U.S. Navy, Hampton Roads has the largest concentration of Filipinos on the East Coast.

Pinoy Productions was founded in 2003 by independent television producer, Jay Sanchez, and created to produce thoughtful and relevant, community-related programming. Recent projects include, In Our Aunties’ Words for the Filipino American National Historical Society, Hampton Roads chapter. The program was shown at the Old Dominion University Film Festival and broadcast on WHRO.
